![]() ![]() Why you should do it: “Unlike traditional dumbbell biceps curls, the TRX biceps curl engages the entire body and is easier to make more or less challenging by simply moving your feet,” says Verstegen. Squeeze your glutes and return to a stand. With a light grip on the handles, step your right leg back and bend both knees to 90 degrees. The move: Begin with the straps at mid length and standing facing the anchor point. Why you should do it: Lunging holding onto the TRX suspension trainer can assist your range of motion while also helping support proper posture, especially if you’re new to the movement. Straighten your arms and brace your core as you press back up to the starting position. Keeping your body in a straight plank, lower yourself until your elbows are at about 90 degrees. Begin on the balls of your feet and with your arms extended directly below your shoulders, pushing against the handles of the straps. The move: Fully lengthen the TRX straps and stand facing away from the anchor point. Why you should do it: “The chest press is a great tool to not only teach pushing with proper alignment, but also to engage the core for a strong, stable spine,” says Verstegen. Squeeze your glutes as you return to a standing position. Without leaning backward, lower your hips down and back as low as you are comfortable going. Hold the handles in front of you with your elbows soft, and step backward until there is slight tension on the straps. The move: Adjust the TRX straps to mid-length, and stand facing the anchor point. “The TRX squat will improve hip mobility and squatting mechanics, which can be carried over into the squat rack, movements of daily living and virtually any sport,” Verstegen explains. Why you should do it: Regardless of your fitness level, squats offer incredible benefits. Squeeze your shoulder blades together and pull yourself up while keeping your body straight like a plank. The move: Take one TRX strap from underneath with your feet closer to the anchor point. Yet by using exercises that target each arm and leg separately - called “unilateral training” - you can unlock tremendous improvements for your fitness and body. Why you should do it: Chances are, most of your exercises target both arms or both legs at the same time like a squat, dead lift or pushup. Slowly straighten your arms to lower your body, keeping your body in a straight line from head to toe and return to the start by bending the elbows. Begin with your elbows bent at 90 degrees, the handles at your rib cage, body straight and planked. The move: With the suspension trainer shortened, stand facing the anchor point. ![]() Not only is the TRX row great at targeting your back muscles, you can easily change the intensity by moving your feet closer or further from the anchor point, she adds. Why you should do it: “The row is essential for proper posture,” says Verstegen. Rest by placing your knees on the ground and assuming a position on your hands and knees. ![]() Your upper body should be supported by your forearms or your hands in a pushup position. Roll your body over to the right into a plank position, allowing your feet to rotate inside the foot cradles. ![]() With your right foot in the left foot cradle, cross your left foot over your right and place it into the right foot cradle. Your knees should be about a foot from the straps.

The Android version, for example, requires users to enter their Google password in order to log in instead of using the built-in Android support for Google accounts, which is odd. The desktop app works well, but we found the mobile apps limited in confusing ways. It's limited, sure, but great for quickly showing something to a collaborator, coworker, and/or archenemy. With the free version of Loom, you can store up to 25 videos of up to five minutes each. It's all very quick, which makes it, overall, the best screen recorder for PC. You can do some basic editing in the browser, if you want, or you can copy the link to share the video. Once you finish, your video will be uploaded to Loom. Loom isn't overly complicated when it's time to record: you can choose whether you want to record just your screen, your screen with webcam video, or just your webcam. If you want to quickly record something and share a link, give Loom a chance. Many video conferencing, communication, and productivity tools-not to mention your mobile phone-have added screen recording to their feature sets, so it's worth checking if you can get the capabilities you need from a tool that's already in your stack. One thing to note: It's possible that an app you already use has screen recording built in. Native Access can be used to install the programs and update them, and it also provides product descriptions as well as changelogs. ![]() So with that in mind, I started looking for stuff inside that slice of time that I could share here but there’re a few key examples that I was already aware of that I’ll talk about first. I could have bought a bunch of vinyl, CDs and whatnot which would’ve likely given me a clearer picture as to what sorts of sounds were popping off around the time but that’s not so easily shareable as a single YouTube video would be. Second, I needed to find stuff that’s actually accessible for most people. From here, I figured the next logical step was to delve into the sound of Japanese house producers from that era, which is the actual subject we’ll be exploring this Cycle!īut in order to narrow the field of search results I’d have to sift through to get to what I was looking for, I decided to set a few limits.įirst, nothing past 2003 (the release of ChainDive) and nothing before 1999 (arbitrarily chosen year). So, I wanted to hear a similar sound to this track that had enthralled me but I couldn’t quite find what I was looking for among the composer’s discography. Movin’ On from ChainDive -Arrangements-, Self-released, 2017. Galaxy 2 Galaxy from POLYPHONET COMMENDATORE (with Junya Nakano), Self-released, 2016 The uplifting piano, shimmering synth and enchanting melodies of this track are the sole catalyst that drew me to this obscure PS2 game. There’s a house track that plays as soon as you’re given control of the main character that’s unlike anything else on ChainDive’s soundtrack. The game’s kinda cool albeit a bit funky to control but that’s obviously not the reason why I’m telling you about it! I don’t know much about the story because my Japanese is still pretty poor but the gameplay in ChainDive involves your seemingly nameless protagonist, who appears to be a magical cyber-warrior, zipping around a war-torn cityscape swinging from floating nodes with an energy chain while fighting giant insects (or maybe they’re demons?) by freezing them with your dual-bladed weapon and then crashing into them using your chain. I’ve also been playing a little bit of it, y’know, for research! It never released outside of Japan but it did make it’s way outside of the country via demo discs for Official PlayStation Magazine, which is where I first heard about it. ![]() ![]() It’s a rather unique action platformer that came out on the PS2 in 2003. This time, we’re gonna go on a journey through an entirely arbitrary period of time inspired by… the PlayStation 2!įorgive me for getting descriptive about a video game for this music feature but I want to tell you about a game called ChainDive. So, for the next couple of Cycles (by which I mean this one and the next one) I’m gonna switch things up by mostly focusing on names that are brand new to me! An exhilarating one but still not as frequent as I’d like it to be. ![]() In the process of compiling the Cycles, occasionally I’ll learn about a different style of electronic music, new artists and labels to keep an eye on or trends in music history but those are a rarity. New Cycles are released on the 9th, 18th and 27th of every month.Įvery so often I am whelmed with the feeling that my musical knowledge is fairly shallow or, at the very least, not nearly as deep as I’d like to be. ![]() The Nonary Cycle is a recurring roundup featuring recent listens, sonic tangents and other aural musings and fascinations. ![]() ![]() It's impossible for Rose to suddenly appear ahead of Finn, and with enough time to bank and hit him from a perpendicular angle. We get an aerial shot showing that Finn is the only speeder heading towards the cannon. Rose should have never been able to pull off the maneuver. It has been established numerous times that Finn cannot pilot ships. He's incredibly close to a planet destroying laser but both he and his ship are no worse for wear. He's the only target heading into an large army but no one is shooting. Finn's speeder should be destroyed pretty quickly. And it's not just her, but everything in the scene: Nothing about her actions or her words make any kind of sense. This is perhaps one of the most tone deaf and illogical scenes I have seen in a movie. > But the scene that really ticked me off was when she T-bones his speeder on Crait. There's no excuse for racism and misogyny against the actress or her character, but there's also no excuse for calling people names simply for disliking a poorly-written character. ![]() Instead, TLJ shoehorns her into the movie in a way that makes people hate her. There would've been great ways to keep her character in TLJ but have her work toward the plot and advance character arcs, rather than reversing them and harming the plot. Finn was FINALLY putting something he loved that was bigger than him - all his friends in the Resistance- over his personal survival. Saving what we love" also makes NO sense because Finn was trying to save the entire Resistance. Rose stopping Finn from ramming the siege cannon turns out not to matter because the Resistance still gets out alive, but this entire scene is horribly written and the character that causes problems here is Rose. ![]() If this is true, then don't write him into this situation in the first place. A common attack on this argument is that "Finn's a main character and should survive until at least TRoS". Not only should this have killed both of them, it denies Finn a fitting end to his character arc. I understand that she grew up without massive trappings of wealth, but the beautiful casinos and alien designs would have been much nicer if Rose wasn't surly the entire time.īut the scene that really ticked me off was when she T-bones his speeder on Crait. ![]() While the existence of the Canto Bight scene is debatable, that's not an argument I'm making- I'm saying that Rose's demeanor and attitude toward Canto Bight are unfounded and incorrect. Count DOoku himself is an example of a character that has wealth (from his title on Serenno) without selling weapons. That doesn't make any sense look to today's world, where arms sales aren't dominating the global economy. On Canto Bight, she becomes furious at the people there because "there's only one way they get this rich- selling weapons". Her portrayal as a moral philosopher makes me irritated because her viewpoint is, quite frankly, bullshit. ![]() I do, however, object to the substance of her character and her traits. I have nothing against Asian people and/or women, and I don't object to the existence of Rose Tico. Before you sic the "racist/misogynist" dogs on me, let me just make one thing clear. ![]() ![]() ![]() Moving hurts, like you haven’t moved in a long time. Support this podcast at - Advertising Inquiries: Privacy & Opt-Out: As Jeremiah has gained confidence as a sought-after composer, songwriter and unlikely pop performer, he’s given himself the space to finally create the deeply personal record he’s been hoping to share for decades. What a perfect time for a peaceful piano record to clear our heads. If you’re reading this right now, you’ve probably found yourself singing along to their romantic, stomping ear-worms “Ho Hey” or “Ophelia” or heard them accidentally a thousand times in the last decade, (both have been streamed over 500 million times and counting,) but all of that is paused for now. ![]() Before the pandemic slowed them down, The Lumineers were bringing their same acoustic spirit to a full-on arena tour coast to coast - showcasing their newest album III. Playing the scruffy bars around Denver before their fanbase expanded exponentially and their first record went triple-platinum, The Lumineers soon found themselves headlining international pop festivals, opening for U2 and Tom Petty, placing songs in The Hunger Games and Game Of Thrones, selling out Madison Square Garden (twice) and finally filling their favorite hallowed Colorado venues like Red Rocks. When they self-released their confessional and warm-hearted self-tilted record in 2012, the two friends never imagined that they would have a chart-topping hit on their hands. Fraites was born in New Jersey, where he grew up with Lumineers frontman Wesley Schultz. While certain smaller songs like “Departure” and “Chilly” are as intimate as fateful field recordings, other standouts like “Tokyo” and “Arrival” are more polished pieces, blooming from that same small space but growing into masterful orchestral widescreen soundscapes with the help of violinist Lauren Jacobson (who often plays with The Lumineers,) cellists Rubin Kodheli and Alex Waterman, and the 40-piece FAME's Orchestra from Macedonia. Really, it’s the tiny imperfections that make this solo work shine: when you can hear the bench swaying slightly, when you spot his wife making dinner in the next room as the sustain pedal is pressed into the wood floor, when the aged instrument struggles to hammer out the final notes (but finally does,) and when Fraites and the instrument seem to breathe and speak and cry out, together. First he used a newer Steinway for the brighter, more forceful tones, and then a warmly creaky creature, that his piano teacher sarcastically named “Firewood,” for the most personal moments. Nearly fifteen years in the making, Piano Piano was created at his former home in Denver during the height of the early COVID-19 lockdowns, with his two favorite pianos leading the way as main characters in a story that seemed to unfurl, as his wife would say in Italian, “step by step” - delicately, but with passion. Alongside juggling duties as co-songwriter and performer in one of the most successful acoustic groups of the last twenty years and raising his two-year-old son, Fraites released a gorgeous instrumental record called Piano Piano this January. After following his heart to Italy, Jeremiah dialed into the podcast from Turin - his wife’s hometown. Lupetin talks to one of the founding members of beloved folk-rock hitmakers The Lumineers - drummer and pianist Jeremiah Fraites. ![]() |
